Serving Buford

A Buford backyard designed for the way you host

Sugar Hill Outdoors works as an outdoor living contractor in Buford, GA, on yards that drop toward Lake Lanier or climb a ridge. A licensed landscape architect studies your grade, drainage, and property lines first. Then you walk through the finished yard in 3D before any stone is set.

Picture it finished

Your Hamilton Mill backyard on a Friday night

Neighbors walk over from the cul-de-sac with a cooler and a salad. The kids are in the pool before the adults find a chair, and the grill island is already going on the terrace by the deck.

Dinner moves up to the deck as the light fades. By the time the step lights come on, someone is asking to bring their in-laws next weekend.

What Friday looks like now

  • Kids swim while the grown-ups talk on the deck above.
  • The cook stays in the conversation at the outdoor kitchen.
  • Lit steps connect the pool terrace to the back door.
  • The neighbors know where to find you on Fridays.

Around Buford

From Lanier's shore to downtown Buford

Buford reaches from the Lanier shoreline down toward I-85, and each stretch brings its own lot shape and paperwork.

Explore Buford on the map

Lanier Islands Parkway

Lake homes off Friendship Road and Holiday Road back onto Corps land. Your patio, pool, and walls stay on your side of that boundary line.

Hamilton Mill

This golf community off Hamilton Mill Parkway holds about 4,000 homes. We prepare plans for community review and confirm which permit office covers your parcel.

Main Street and Shadburn Avenue

Historic homes near downtown date as far back as the 1870s. Your plan fits the older house, with equipment access and drainage mapped around it.

Below Buford Dam

The Chattahoochee corridor begins at the dam. Lots within 2,000 feet of the river follow Georgia's river protection rules, so we check the corridor map first.

Permits in Buford

Which office signs off on your Buford project

Buford city limits cross from Gwinnett into Hall County, and the City of Buford issues permits on both sides. A Buford mailing address outside city limits routes to Gwinnett County or Hall County. As your deck builder, we confirm your office and pull the permit for the whole project.

Why Sugar Hill Outdoors

One firm from first sketch to final stone

Sugar Hill Outdoors has designed and built backyards across North Georgia since 1997.

Buford plans by landscape architects

In Georgia, only licensed professionals may use the landscape architect title. One of the two on our staff draws your Buford yard, and the permit-ready plans are yours to keep.

Masonry to wiring, one contract

Our residential and light commercial license puts masonry, electrical, and plumbing on one contract, and you keep one contact through cleanup.

Buford hardscape by a Master Craftsman

Belgard awards this title for a documented body of completed hardscape work, and we were the first in Atlanta to earn it.

Each payment follows finished work

Each payment follows a finished phase of construction, so you see the work before you pay for it.

What Buford homeowners ask before building

Buford owners usually raise these on the first call, before anything is drawn.

The City of Buford issues permits inside city limits, on both the Gwinnett and Hall County sides. Addresses outside city limits go to Gwinnett County or Hall County. We check your parcel and pull the permit for you.

It can. Georgia's Metropolitan River Protection Act sets a 2,000-foot corridor along both banks of the river, starting at Buford Dam. Land disturbance inside that corridor follows the adopted plan, so we check your lot against the corridor map during design.

Plan on one for taller walls. Georgia's building code exempts walls up to 4 feet that hold back only soil, and taller walls need a permit. We have every wall over 4 feet engineered and confirm the details with your permit office.

Plan on it. Unincorporated Hall County requires a permit to add, enlarge, or replace a deck, and inside city limits the City of Buford reviews permits on both county sides. As your Buford deck contractor, we confirm the rule for your parcel and pull the permit.

Your deck, patio, pool, and walls belong on your private lot. The Corps manages the shoreline strip between your property line and the water, and any work there requires a Shoreline Use Permit. Items like steps or a walkway to the water can qualify. As your deck contractor, we map the Corps line before design starts.

Often, yes. As your pool builder, we have a licensed landscape architect study the grade and design walls that create a level pool deck. Your custom pool stays on your private land, uphill of the Corps boundary, and the design frames the lake from the pool deck.

A good pool contractor brings licensed design and a long track record. Licensed landscape architects design your pool in 3D, and we have built about 60 pools since 2010. One contract covers every trade, and payments follow finished milestones.

Most walls start at $50 per square foot of wall face, and lake lots often need more than one tier. Taller engineered walls reach $75 to $80 per square foot, with engineering costs factored in above 4 feet. Your consultation turns that range into a number for your lot.
