What we do

A welcoming path from your driveway to your door

Your front walk is the first thing guests feel underfoot and the route you take home every evening. Since 1997, we've designed and built paver walkways, steps, and stone walls across North Georgia. Every project starts with a licensed landscape architect walking your property.

What we build

Paver walkways, stone steps, and stacked stone

We draw every piece into one plan, so your walkway, steps, and walls match and flow together.

Belgard and Techo-Bloc pavers

Pavers in the pattern, color, and border you choose, laid on a compacted base built for North Georgia's red clay.

Stone and brick walkways

Masonry in stone, brick, or tile, set by hand for a classic, custom look along your path.

Natural stone steps

Stone steps sized to your slope, with tread depth and riser height worked out in your design.

Paver steps

Paver and block steps that match your walkway, so the whole route reads as one material, top to bottom.

Stacked stone walls

Stone and blended block walls hold a grade change and turn it into usable space or a place to sit.

Paths to every door

Front walks, side paths, and routes down to a basement door, planned so every entrance has a clear way in.

Why Sugar Hill Outdoors

The hardscape contractor behind every step

As your hardscape contractor since 1997, we put licensed design, earned credentials, and one accountable team behind every walkway and set of steps.

Licensed landscape architects

Licensed landscape architect is a protected title in Georgia. Two are on staff, and one designs your walkway and steps before construction begins.

Belgard Master Craftsman

The first Belgard Master Craftsman in Atlanta and one of few in Georgia, earned through a documented record of finished work. We're also Certified Techo-Pros.

One licensed contractor

Our residential and light commercial general contractor's license puts every phase, from grading and drainage to the final paver, under one contract and one team.

Paid as each phase finishes

You pay in milestones as each phase of your walkway and steps is finished, so every payment matches work you can see.

From first walk-through to finished path

Every paver walkway installation follows the same three steps, whether it's a short side path or a full hillside of steps.

01 / DISCOVER

Design consultation

A licensed landscape architect spends one to two hours on your property, looking at the grade and drainage along the routes you walk every day.

02 / DESIGN

Your 3D design

About a week later, you see your walkway, steps, and walls in 3D, with permit-ready construction documents you own.

03 / BUILD

Installation

Installation runs from about a week for a simple walkway to several months for a large hillside project with stone walls.

Cost and budget

What shapes the price of a paver walkway

Your price comes from the material you choose, the length of the run, and the grade it climbs. Design consultations are $150, and full designs start at $600.

Poured concrete

Plain concrete is the most budget-friendly surface. Adding a stamp and color brings its price close to pavers.

Pavers and block

Belgard and Techo-Bloc sit in the middle tier and give you the most choice in pattern and color.

Stone, brick, or tile

Masonry takes the most hand labor and material. It's the premium tier, and it gives you the look of natural stone.

Steps and grade

Each step and wall adds base work and labor. Your design sets exactly how many your slope calls for.

Sloped North Georgia lots

Steps that turn a slope into a stroll

Piedmont slopes in Georgia commonly run 6% to 30%, with 10 to 20 feet of local relief typical. That makes steps and stacked stone a routine part of walkway design here. A licensed landscape architect treats your slope as a design opportunity, shaping each run so your yard feels easy to walk from top to bottom.

Frequently asked questions about walkways and steps

Here's what homeowners ask most before their walkway goes in.

They sit in our premium masonry tier, since each stone is set by hand. Your cost depends on how many steps your slope needs and the stone you choose. Your design sets the scope and price for your yard. Paver steps from Belgard or Techo-Bloc sit one tier lower if you'd like more room in your budget.

Both share our masonry tier, the premium tier alongside tile. Each takes careful hand labor and more material than pavers or concrete. The difference for your project comes down to the stone or brick you pick and the size of the run, and we'll price both options during your design.

We install Belgard and Techo-Bloc, our two main paver lines, and we're a Belgard Master Craftsman and Certified Techo-Pros. Both brands come in a wide range of shapes and colors. Using the same line on your walkway and steps gives the whole route one consistent look.

Pavers hold up best on a compacted base built for your soil. North Georgia's red clay drains slowly, so every walkway we build starts with a prepared base and a planned drainage path. That base keeps your pavers level and even underfoot for years.

Concrete is the lower-cost option. Plain poured concrete is the most budget-friendly way to build steps, and a stamp and color bring it close to paver pricing. Natural stone takes the most hand labor and material, which places it in the premium tier. We can also mix materials, like pavers for the walk and stone for the steps, to fit your budget.

A stone wall or step lasts as long as the base beneath it. North Georgia's red clay drains slowly, so we design the base and drainage together with the stonework. Planning where water goes from the start keeps each stone set firm through wet seasons.

Plain poured concrete costs less up front. Once you add a stamp and color, concrete lands close to paver pricing, and pavers give you far more choice in pattern and border. As your hardscape contractor, we'll walk you through both during your consultation so you can pick the right fit.

The right steps depend on your grade. Piedmont slopes in Georgia range from 2% to 60%, so a licensed landscape architect measures your slope during the consultation and sets tread depth and riser height to match. You end up with steps that feel natural to climb.
