What we do

Landscape design planned around how you live

Clint Tucker grew up working in his grandmother's rose and azalea garden, earned his landscape architecture degree at UGA in 1996, and founded Sugar Hill Outdoors in 1997. Today, a licensed landscape architect starts every landscape design by walking your yard and learning how you want to live in it.

What we build

Landscaping services from plan to planting

Our landscaping services cover every step, from the first plan on paper to the last plant in the ground.

Custom landscape plans

We draw a one-of-a-kind plan for your yard, designed for you to enjoy year round.

New home landscapes

Planting beds and irrigation for a newly built home, laid out to plan. A typical new home install with irrigation takes two days.

Planting beds

Shrubs, perennials, and trees from BL Mullinax and SiteOne nurseries, laid out on site exactly as your plan shows.

Irrigation systems

Irrigation installed with your new landscape keeps fresh beds and lawn watered through hot Georgia summers.

Sod installation

Fresh sod laid as part of your landscape plan gives you a full, green lawn from the first day.

Front yard refreshes

We clear out an overgrown front yard, replant it, and freshen the mulch, so your home looks brand new from the street.

Why Sugar Hill Outdoors

Why homeowners hire our landscape architects

As your landscape contractor, we design and install every part of your landscape under one contract, as we have in North Georgia since 1997.

Licensed landscape architects

Landscape architect is a legally protected title in Georgia. Two are on our staff, and one of them assesses your site and designs your landscape.

One contract, every phase

Our residential and light commercial general contractor's license covers design, grading, planting, and irrigation, with one point of contact throughout.

Trusted nursery partners

We've worked with BL Mullinax nursery for several years, source through SiteOne, and our Urban Ag Council membership spans more than 25 years.

Paid as work is finished

You pay as each phase of your landscape is finished, and you can call anyone on our reference list before you sign.

From site visit to planting day

Every landscape project follows the same three steps, from a single planting bed to a whole property.

01 / DISCOVER

Design consultation

A licensed landscape architect walks your yard with you, learning how you use it and where the sun rises and sets.

02 / DESIGN

Your landscape in 3D

You see your landscape plan in 3D, and the plan is yours to keep. We revise it together until it fits the way you picture your yard.

03 / BUILD

Planting and installation

We order material, lay out every plant to plan, and install. Most projects take one day to several weeks.

Landscaping cost

What landscape design costs

Your price comes from the scope of work, from a single planting bed to a full property.

Typical pricing

  • On-site design consultation: $150
  • Design fees: start at $600
  • Landscape projects: start at $500, priced to your scope

North Georgia yards

Planned for Piedmont clay and rolling lots

North Georgia's soil is dense, naturally acidic Piedmont clay, and it shapes what grows well and how each bed gets prepared. Slopes here commonly run 6 to 30 percent, so many yards need a grading plan along with the planting plan. Your plan accounts for both from the first visit.

Yes. We can clear out an overgrown front yard, re-landscape it, and freshen the mulch, which is a smart update when you're getting ready to sell. A fresh front landscape can make your whole house look new again.

Yes. Your design sets the order, with grading and structural work placed first so the planting phase fits right in. Larger trees can go in later, so you spread the cost over time while following one plan.

Usually, yes. North Georgia's rolling terrain means slopes commonly run 6 to 30 percent, so a grading plan often comes first. As your landscape contractor, we design the grading and planting together and install both.
