A well-built retaining wall holds your slope in place and opens up level ground you can use. Sugar Hill Outdoors has worked as a retaining wall contractor since its first year in 1997, with more than 1,000 walls built since.

What we build
North Georgia's rolling hills and red clay make a well-placed wall one of the most useful things you can add to a sloped lot.
We build with Belgard Anchor Diamond Pro, Versa-Lok, Techo-Bloc, and Redi-Rock, four engineered block systems with blended color options.
Brick or stone masonry gives your slope a classic, custom finish, and it makes a handsome seat wall too.
Planter timber walls give a gentle grade change a warm, natural edge, with room along the top for plantings.
Stacked stone gives your wall the texture of natural rock and helps it blend right into the landscaping around it.
A wall built at seat height holds the grade and gives you built-in seating along the grade.
Each wall is laid out to give you the most level, usable ground your slope can hold.
Why Sugar Hill Outdoors
Clint Tucker and our retaining wall builders plan each wall as part of your whole yard, with two licensed landscape architects on staff.
We've built retaining walls since our first year in business, more than 1,000 of them in modular block, masonry, and planter timber.
Our Belgard Master Craftsman designation, the first in Atlanta, rests on a documented record of finished hardscape work. We're also Certified Techo-Pros with Techo-Bloc.
Any wall taller than 4 feet gets engineered plans, and we build it to those plans. That standard matches the permit line in most North Georgia counties.
Our licensed landscape architects lay out every wall to maximize your usable space, then use blended color block or stacked stone to make it a focal point.
Here's how your wall goes from a first walk around the yard to the last block.
We walk your slope with you, talk through how you want to use the ground, and settle the wall's height and length.
A licensed landscape architect lays out your wall in a 3D design and helps you choose block, stone, or timber. Walls over 4 feet get engineered plans.
One licensed team builds your wall under one contract. A typical 400-square-foot wall, 4 feet high and 100 feet long, takes three to five days. Lot access and wall height shape your schedule.
Retaining wall cost
Retaining wall cost is based on the total square footage of the wall. Height moves the price most, since taller walls need engineering.

Tall walls and permits
When your wall rises above 4 feet, we have it engineered and build it to those plans. That same 4-foot mark is the permit trigger in Jackson County, Braselton, Hall County, Athens-Clarke County, and Dawson County.
Cumming, Cobb County, and Sandy Springs set their line at 6 feet, with added engineering or indemnification steps. We confirm the rules for your address and handle the permit as part of your project.
