Outdoor rooms for Dahlonega's mountain homes

Sugar Hill Outdoors is an outdoor living contractor for Dahlonega GA homes set on ridges, creek banks, and wooded hillsides. The ground here weathers from schist and gneiss, so rock and steep grade shape every plan. A licensed landscape architect studies your slope, and you see every terrace and step in 3D first.

A stone retaining wall turns your hillside into level terraces for a patio or lawn. Near Yahoola Creek, we site it outside the stream buffer.

Picture it finished

Your Dahlonega hillside, full of company

Friends drove up for the weekend, and the whole hillside is in use. Someone's at the grill island on the upper terrace, and the rest are in the pool below it, watching the ridgelines stack up blue.

Up on the view deck, the table is set for dinner. Later everyone drifts down the stone steps to the fire, and somebody starts planning the next trip up.

How the hillside hosts now

  • Coffee on the deck, with the ridgelines out front.
  • The pool and grill island sit on neighboring terraces.
  • Stone steps carry everyone down to the fire.
  • The walkout level stays dry for guests under the deck.

Around Dahlonega

Where we build around Dahlonega

Your lot's location decides which rules apply to the design.

Explore Dahlonega on the map

Achasta on the Chestatee

This gated golf community sits along the Chestatee River. Lots near the river carry a county stream buffer, so we site your patio and walls above it.

Crown Mountain

The Village and The Overlook sit on wooded basement lots with long views. Your deck and lower patio are planned together around the walkout level.

Frogtown Road, north of town

Acreage and view lots line this road, some along the Chestatee. River lots may fall under the 50-foot trout water buffer, so we confirm it and build upslope.

Auraria Road and GA-9

Hardwood tracts of a few acres sit along this corridor, many on septic. We map the system and plan any new drive for county approval.

Along Yahoola Creek

Northeast of town, wooded homes back to Yahoola Creek and its branches. We confirm the stream's buffer and step your paths down the grade.

In town or in the county

Addresses inside city limits go through the City of Dahlonega. Everywhere else falls to Lumpkin County Planning, and we file with the right office.

Made for mountain homes

Dahlonega outdoor spaces built to last

Dahlonega sits on the Dahlonega Plateau, where soil forms from schist, quartzite, and gneiss. It drains well, and rock often turns up close to the surface on steep ground. We plan excavation, footings, and wall bases for your site, and work the rock into the design where it fits.

Dahlonega and Lumpkin County project questions

Dahlonega homeowners often bring these to a first meeting with their outdoor living contractor.

Lumpkin County requires a building permit for structures you build, alter, or install, and grading work can call for a land disturbance permit with your recorded plat. We confirm the requirements for your wall with the Planning Department and file the paperwork.

Look for licensed landscape architects who can show your custom pool in 3D, with one contract covering every trade. Sugar Hill Outdoors has built about 60 pools since 2010, and you pay as each phase is finished.

It depends on your address. The City of Dahlonega Community Development Department handles addresses inside city limits, and Lumpkin County Planning covers the rest. As your Dahlonega deck contractor, we confirm your office and pull the permit.

Yes. A licensed landscape architect reads your grade and rock, then designs a tiered pool, walls, terraces, and steps to suit them. Our deck builders plan footings around what your site holds.

Warm water streams carry a 25-foot buffer, and primary and secondary trout waters carry 50 feet. Work inside a buffer requires a state EPD variance. The county Planning Office confirms your stream's designation, and we place your project outside the line.

Georgia's barrier code sets the floor: at least 48 inches, with self-closing, self-latching gates. As your Dahlonega pool contractor, we check with Lumpkin County Planning or the City of Dahlonega for any added local rule, then design the barrier with your pool.

It sets where hardscape can go. Georgia keeps patios, drives, and pools 10 feet from the septic tank. Lumpkin County Environmental Health keeps septic records, so we locate your system before we draw.

Most retaining walls run $50 to $80 per square foot, with taller engineered walls at the top of that range. Pressure-treated decks run $32 to $48 per square foot, and composite decking runs $48 to $60. Your consultation sets the exact price.
